Smashed Ya Mama Okra

Smashed Okra is a basic southern food group usually made with salt-and-peppered cornmeal. Try this twist and you’ll never go back

You’ll need…
20 medium fresh Okra pods (about a pound)
1 cup buttermilk
1 egg
1 cup Walker & Sons Slap Ya Mama Cajun Fish Fry (seasoned)
1 Rolling pin

Wash okra. While wet, bang each pod with a rolling pin until the sides bust and a few seeds shoot out. You want the pods to end up flattened.

Mix the egg and buttermilk together and pour into a flat bowl. Soak a few smashed Okra pods at a time in the buttermilk and bump off excess liquid. Sledge each pod through the Cajun Fish Fry making sure both sides of the pod are well coated.

Lay pods out on a lightly oiled cookie sheet.
Bake in the oven at 450 degrees. Turn each pod after 15 minutes. Cook for 15 more minutes and you’re done. Pods should come out hot and crunchy.

Dip in Ranch Dressing if you like.
